Query author contributions in Reactome

Reactome depends on collaboration between our curation team and outside experts to assemble and peer-review its pathway modules. The integration of ORCID within Reactome enables us to meet a key challenge with authoring, curating and reviewing biological information by incentivizing and crediting the external experts that contribute their expertise and time to the Reactome curation process. More information is available at ORCID and Reactome.

If you have an ORCID ID that is not listed on this page, please forward this information to us and we will update your Reactome pathway records.

commentFUNCTION Transcription factor required for zygotic genome activation (ZGA), a critical event in early embryonic development during which the developmental control passes from maternally provided mRNAs to the expression of the zygotic genome after fertilization (PubMed:37459895). Cannot compensate for loss of other members of the Obox family, suggesting that its function differs from other Obox family members (PubMed:37459895). May regulate expression of histone genes in embryonic stem cells (PubMed:20004198). Also involved in completion of meiosis of oocytes during the meiosis-I/meiosis-II transition (PubMed:20154267, PubMed:22384421). Required to maintain the nuclear membrane of the germinal vesicle in oocytes (PubMed:26762402).SUBCELLULAR LOCATION Nuclear localization is dependent on its homeobox domain.TISSUE SPECIFICITY Specifically expressed in early embryos.DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE Expression is low in oocytes (PubMed:37459895). Expressed zygotically with expression peaking in early-two-cell stage embryos, during minor zygotic genome activation (ZGA), and declining in late two-cell stage embryos (PubMed:37459895).DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE No visible phenotype; mice are viable and fertile (PubMed:37459895). Female mice lacking maternally transcribed Obox1, Obox2, Obox5, Obox7 as well as zygotically expressed Obox3 and Obox4 are infertile: embryos arrest at two-four cell stage due to impaired zygotic genome activation (ZGA) (PubMed:37459895).SIMILARITY Belongs to the paired homeobox family. Obox subfamily.
