textAfter the Csf1 dimer binds a Csfr1 monomer, a second molecule of Csf1r binds Csf1 and the two molecules of Csf1r dimerize via their D4 and D5 domains, resulting in a conformational change in Csf1r that activates its kinase activity (Li and Stanley 1991, Chen et al. 2008). Though disulfide-bonded Csf1r dimers are detected in immunoprecipitates, the disulfide bonds appear to form during the immunoprecipitation procedure and appear to be secondary to conformational changes induced by ligand binding (Xiong et al. 2011).
