Query author contributions in Reactome

Reactome depends on collaboration between our curation team and outside experts to assemble and peer-review its pathway modules. The integration of ORCID within Reactome enables us to meet a key challenge with authoring, curating and reviewing biological information by incentivizing and crediting the external experts that contribute their expertise and time to the Reactome curation process. More information is available at ORCID and Reactome.

If you have an ORCID ID that is not listed on this page, please forward this information to us and we will update your Reactome pathway records.

commentFUNCTION Precursor of the appetite-regulating peptide ghrelin, including ghrelin-27 and ghrelin-28.FUNCTION Ghrelin is the ligand for growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1 (GHSR) (By similarity). Octanoylated ghrelin-28 is the most commonly found ghrelin and octanoylation is essential for the activation of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1 (GHSR) (By similarity). Induces the release of growth hormone from the pituitary (By similarity). Has an appetite-stimulating effect, induces adiposity and stimulates gastric acid secretion. Involved in growth regulation.FUNCTION Obestatin may be the ligand for GPR39. May have an appetite-reducing effect resulting in decreased food intake. May reduce gastric emptying activity and jejunal motility.SUBCELLULAR LOCATION Ghrelin is broadly expressed with higher expression in the stomach. Very low levels are detected in the hypothalamus, heart, lung, pancreas, intestine and adipose tissue. Obestatin is most highly expressed in jejunum, and also found in duodenum, stomach, pituitary, ileum, liver, hypothalamus and heart. Expressed in low levels in pancreas, cerebellum, cerebrum, kidney, testis, ovary colon and lung.PTM O-octanoylated by GOAT/MBOAT4 (By similarity). O-octanoylation or O-decanoylation is essential for ghrelin activity (By similarity). The O-decanoylated forms Ghrelin-27-C10 and Ghrelin-28-C10 differ in the length of the carbon backbone of the carboxylic acid bound to Ser-26 (By similarity). A small fraction of ghrelin, ghrelin-28-C10:1, may be modified with a singly unsaturated carboxylic acid (By similarity). Also O-acetylated and O-butyrylated on Ser-26 to minor levels (By similarity).PTM Amidation of Leu-98 is essential for obestatin activity.MASS SPECTROMETRY The measured range is 24-51.MASS SPECTROMETRY The measured range is 24-50.MASS SPECTROMETRY Belongs to the motilin family.CAUTION PubMed:16284174 reports obestatin as ligand of GPR39. However, PubMed:17289961 and others are unable to reproduce these results. It also seems to be unclear whether obestatin has opposite effects on food intake compared with ghrelin.ONLINE INFORMATION Gut feelings - Issue 66 of January 2006
