Query author contributions in Reactome
Reactome depends on collaboration between our curation team and outside experts to
assemble and peer-review its pathway modules. The integration of ORCID within Reactome
enables us to meet a key challenge with authoring, curating and reviewing biological
information by incentivizing and crediting the external experts that contribute their
expertise and time to the Reactome curation process. More information is available at
ORCID and Reactome.
If you have an ORCID ID that is not listed on this page, please
forward this information to us and we will update your Reactome pathway records.

| text | Interleukin-18 (IL18) is suggested to be cleaved by Caspase-1 active tetramer complex (Ghayur et al. 1997). This cleavage is necessary to activate IL18 and to generate an inflammatory response capable of eradicating some pathogens, as Shigella, effectively (Sansonetti et al. 2000). Note that Asp has been identified as the cleavage site in IL18 for Caspase-1 (Tan et al. 1998). In addition, IL18 induces Interferon gamma (IFNG) and activates a Th1 response. Invasion of macrophages by Shigella directly activates CASP1, which triggers an acute inflammation by proteolytically activating IL1beta and IL18. The active tetramer of Caspase-1 (CASP1) contains at least two dimers formed by subunits 120-197 and 317-404 (Thornberry et al. 1992). Gaggero et al. 2004 also suggest that other caspases can activate IL18. |
