Query author contributions in Reactome
Reactome depends on collaboration between our curation team and outside experts to assemble and peer-review its pathway modules. The integration of ORCID within Reactome enables us to meet a key challenge with authoring, curating and reviewing biological information by incentivizing and crediting the external experts that contribute their expertise and time to the Reactome curation process. More information is available at ORCID and Reactome.
If you have an ORCID ID that is not listed on this page, please forward this information to us and we will update your Reactome pathway records.

| text | CELA enzymes (Chymotrysin-like ELAstases) are a family of structurally similar serine endopeptidases members of which are involved in inflammatory processes, keratinization, and digestion of dietary proteins. Here the roles of four family members, CELA2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B, in digestion are annotated. All four proteins are synthesized in the exocrine pancreas as proenzymes and secreted into the lumen of the small intestine where they are activated by trypsin cleavage. While elastase enzymes by definition catalyze the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in elastin, notably ones between glycine residues or between glycine and alanine, the four members of the CELA family of pancreatic enzymes have much broader substrate specificities (de Oliveira & Salgado 2013) and only one, CELA2A, has been shown to digest elastin itself in assays in vitro with purified enzymes (Szepessy & Sahin-Toth 2006). |
