Query author contributions in Reactome
Reactome depends on collaboration between our curation team and outside experts to assemble and peer-review its pathway modules. The integration of ORCID within Reactome enables us to meet a key challenge with authoring, curating and reviewing biological information by incentivizing and crediting the external experts that contribute their expertise and time to the Reactome curation process. More information is available at ORCID and Reactome.
If you have an ORCID ID that is not listed on this page, please forward this information to us and we will update your Reactome pathway records.

| text | Sterol methyltransferases (SMTs) synthesized by plants catalyze the C-24 methylation of cycloartenol as well as a second methylation step (24-methylene lophenol to 24-ethylidene lophenol) |CITS:12226510|. In Arabidopsis, the 16 SMT isoforms are divided in two families: SMT1 and SMT2. The former is responsible for the first C-24-methylation step whereas the latter is involved in the second methylation. The carbons of the alkyl group at C-24 are added by way of an S-adenosylmethionine (SAM)-dependent transmethylation. Although SMT2 is primarily involved in the second sterol-methylation step, it is also able to catalyze the methylation of cycloartenol |CITS:14622971|. Arabidopsis SMT2 subunit organization is homotetrameric |CITS:14622971|. Three key catalytic signature motifs have been described for this family of enzymes: Region I, a wall of the sterol binding site, Region II, the AdoMet binding site, and Region III, a presumptive wall of the sterol binding site |CITS:14622971|. |
