textIn general, nucleotides and cysteinyl-leukotrienes (CysLTs) are unrelated signaling molecules inducing multiple effects via separate G-protein-coupled receptors: the purinoceptors and CysLT receptors. However, GPR17, an orphan receptor at intermediate phylogenetic position between P2Y and CysLT receptors, is specifically activated by both families of endogenous ligands. The orphan receptor GRR17 has been identified as a dual uracil nucleotide/cysteinyl-leukotriene receptor (Ciana P et al, 2006). Here, the ligands cys-LTs bind with the receptor and their effects are mediated by coupling to the G protein alpha i subunit (Ciana P et al, 2006).
