textCDKs (A and B) control the G2 to M transition. The B-type CDKs probably regulate plant-specific features of the cell cycle such as the elongation of hypocotyl cells and the development of cotyledon cells. The accumulation of mitotic cyclins is a gradual process, whereas the onset of mitosis is an abrupt and dramatic change. Hence, the activity of the CDK–cyclin complex is mainly regulated by changes in the phosphorylation state of the kinase.
